Visit from Mayor Robert Young

Last Friday, our very own Mayor Young came to the library and worked our circulation desk. He was amazing! He checked out books, answered questions about book series and solved problems on ipads. Thank you very much, it was great having you here!

Ontario Public Llibrary Weekl

The theme for Ontario Public Library Week 2012 is:  Libraries Connect

An annual fall event, Ontario Public Library Week was first announced by the province in 1985 and has since become the focus for promoting public library services in Ontario.

A strong library system is the cornerstone of a strong community. Ontario Public Library Week recognizes the important contribution Ontario's public libraries make to education, literacy and life-long learning in Ontario communities. With more than 1,085 service points throughout Ontario, public libraries' patrons make over 72 million visits to local libraries across Ontario annually. And now virtually every library branch in the province also provides access to electronic information through the Internet.

Public libraries, dedicated librarians and devoted volunteers across the province are planning special activities to mark Ontario Public Library Week.

Here at the Dwight Public Library, we are thrilled to unveil our BRAND NEW WEBSITE next week. Check it out at www.lakeofbayslibrary.ca Come in for a guided tour and discover all the resources available to you. Download e-books, find a new career, research your ancestry, get homework help and so much more!

Sport Pink for Support

October -- or as we like to call it, Octobreast, has always been known as the month for breast cancer awareness.  This year, we'd like to help the people who generously donate their time to raising money for education and research.  We invite you to show your support for the women and their families who are fighting this disease by having a strip of your hair dyed pink!  Come to the Library Oct. 27, between 10 and and noon, and hair stylist Lisa Taylor will add a splash of colour to your locks for a donation of your choice.  All money raised will be donated for breast cancer treatment and research.

Community Scarecrow Contest

Families and buisnesses are invited to create a scarecrow and enter our contest.  Prizes will be awarded in 5 categories: scariest, funniest, best commercial, most creative and best overall.   Judges will be out and about Dwight and area on October 19 to judge all participants.  Winners will be announced Oct. 26 at the community Halloween Party.  Come and enjoy pumpkin pie while we award the prizes.  Please register at the library by Oct. 12, dpl@vianet.ca or 705 635 3319
